The timeless comedy of politics A talk by Quentin Letts
Political columnist Quentin Letts, author of a new novel NUNC!, will talk about the timeless comedy of politics. We may think today's public life an unprecedented parade of chumps and chancers, but things may have been just as bad in Herod's Jerusalem. Our speaker will take us 'behind the Speaker's Chair' and describe some of the pratfalls and comeuppances of the Westminster steeplechase.
Quentin Letts has over the past 40 years been a Fleet Street diarist, parliamentary sketch writer, foreign correspondent and theatre critic. His novel NUNC!, part-inspired by the death of his brother, brings affectionate life to the story of the prophet Simeon, who waited at the Temple until he saw the infant Christ. Letts's non-fiction books include 50 People Who Buggered Up Britain, Patronising Bastards and Stop Bloody Bossing Me About. He is a member of the Savile Club, lives in Herefordshire and is married to a church organist. She, as is the way with organists, keeps him firmly under her feet.
